May 4, 2010—Are you a high school student thinking of pursuing a career in science, technology, engineering, or math? Then NASA has a program meant to INSPIRE you.
Applications are being accepted now through June 30 for NASA’s Interdisciplinary National Science Program Incorporating Research Experience, or INSPIRE. The centerpiece of INSPIRE is the Online Learning Community, or OLC, which provides a place for students to interact with their peers, NASA experts, and education specialists. The online community also provides grade-level educational activities, discussion boards, and chat rooms for participants to gain exposure to careers and opportunities available at NASA.
To be considered for INSPIRE, applicants must:
Be entering the ninth through 12th grade in Fall 2010
Be at least 13 years old
Be a U.S. citizen
Have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA
Demonstrate the desire and the academic preparation to pursue a STEM-related field of study beyond high school
Complete the online application process with all required documentation
In addition, students selected for the program will have the option to compete for unique STEM experiences during the summer of 2011 at NASA facilities and participating universities.
To be considered for a summer STEM experience, participants must at a minimum:
Be an active participant in the INSPIRE Online Learning Community
Have a 3.0 academic GPA
Submit updated transcripts, recommendations and parental consent forms, and other documentation as instructed
INSPIRE is part of NASA’s education strategy to attract and retain students in the STEM disciplines critical to NASA’s missions.
