Young Eagle celebrates first solo

Gettysburg, Penn., January 9, 2007 – Former EAA Young Eagle Dale Hartman joined an ever-growing list of solo fliers on November. 25, 2006.

Dale flew a
Koliber II airplane from York Airport on his sixteenth birthday. Weather made the day picture-perfect for Dale, his family and members of EAA Chapter 1041 who came to see the big event.

Dale became a Young Eagle in 1999 and attended the
EAA’s Air Academy at Oshkosh, Wis., last summer, with sponsorship from EAA Chapter 1041, also known as the Gettysburg Barnstormers.

The Barnstormers are a group of area pilots and aviation enthusiasts. Originally based at the Hanover Airport in Conewago Township, the group moved to
Gettysburg in 1998 and currently has 60 members. The group reaches out to young people, travels around the country and introduces others to the joys of flying as well.

Dale’s flight training started right after he returned from the EAA Air Academy. He plans to continue training for his private pilot certificate.

Dale is the son of Henry and Peggy Hartman of Hanover. He is a sophomore at South Western High School and is exploring various aviation career opportunities. His and his family are avid EAA members who annually attend
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh as a family activity.

As well as attending the fly-in, they participate as air show volunteers, Dale volunteers with ground handling and preflight briefings for departing aircraft.

This is the second member of EAA Chapter 1041 to make a recent solo.
Ryan Warner also completed his first solo in October.
