EAA Headquarters, Oshkosh, Wis. – June 6, 2008 - Women aviators from around the world are invited to Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wis., to encourage other women to explore the world of flight during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2008, July 28-August 3.
WomenVenture is a joint effort between EAA and Women in Aviation International (WAI), to encourage women to become pilots through seminars, speakers and special events during the week.
One of the special initiatives planned is a giant logbook that will track the number of female pilots attending this year’s event. The logbook will be on display throughout the week in the EAA Welcome Center, allowing women pilots – current or otherwise (including student pilots) - to sign in and participate in an attempt to establish a world record for the largest single gathering of women aviators in history.
All female pilots in attendance on Friday, August 1, are also invited to gather on AeroShell Square at 10:30 a.m. (following the annual Women in Aviation Breakfast) to be in the photograph of the world’s largest gathering of women pilots.
WomenVenture hopes to increase participation of women in the world of aviation - not only as pilots, but also as mechanics, designers, builders, journalists, photographers, and even enthusiastic volunteers. “We want to emphasize that there’s no limit to what you can do in aviation, no matter what your age,” said Dr. Peggy Chabrian, WAI president. “Participating in aviation is an incredible experience and this gathering of women should be seen as inspiration to encourage others to get involved.”
