EAA AirVenture Oshkosh – July 26, 2005 – In an airplane with a paint scheme that he designed, Aaron Mentkowski, 17, of Bay Village, Ohio, took to the skies on Tuesday during the EAA AirVenture Fly-In held in Oshkosh, Wis.
Aaron created the winning design in this year’s EAA Youth Art Contest. As the winner, his design was transformed from paper to a full-size aircraft. The EAA Young Eagles Glastar is now a flying painting. On Tuesday, Aaron had a chance to see the results of his work up close – and in the air during the Showcase at EAA AirVenture 2005.
The art contest was to take an outline of a Glastar and create a unique design representing the EAA Young Eagles program. It was a huge success with more than 200 entries.
All of the contest entries are on display in the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh, WI, where they can be seen year round.

In selecting the winner, the entries were divided into several groups by age. Entered designs winning or receiving honorable mention status in each grouping, were awarded prizes. Out of the top design ideas a “Competition Design Winner” was chosen.
Donating their services, Scheme Designers of Cresskill, New Jersey turned the design into a digital image and Gulfstream of Appleton, WI, applied the final paint design to the airplane.
