Scholarships Recognize Outstanding Students

Oshkosh, Wis., October 24, 2006 –This year five students received scholarships from the 2006 EAA Scholarship Program. Each has plans to pursue a career in aviation and is already involved in community or aviation activities.

The EAA Scholarship Program encourages and supports excellence among EAA student members studying the technologies and skills of aviation. Exceptional students who demonstrate dedication, leadership and a financial need to accomplish their goals are welcomed to apply for scholarships.

Scholarship winners must be
EAA members or be recognized by one and can apply online at the Young Eagles Web site. This year, 189 students applied for one or more of the eight scholarships offered. Grants range from $500 – $5,000 and are awarded to one recipient annually. They include the Herbert L. Cox Memorial Scholarship, Hansen Scholarship, Payzer Scholarship, David Alan Quick Scholarship, and the H.P. "Bud" Milligan Aviation Scholarship. With the exception of the Payzer Scholarship, applicants must major in an aviation-related course of study to be considered.

Ling-Lun Bob Hsia won the David Alan Quick Scholarship. He is majoring in aerospace engineering at Virginia Tech. This scholarship requires you be a junior or senior in good standing and enrolled in an accredited college or university.

Kristina Berenyi Gallegos captured the Payzer Scholarship recognizing persons who seek a major and declares an intention to pursue a professional career in engineering, mathematics, or the physical or biological sciences. She will attend Cal Poly Pomona for mathematics.

Bryan Andrew Rankin won the H.P. “Bud” Milligan Aviation Scholarship recognizing students enrolled in an accredited aviation program at a college, technical school, or aviation academy. Bryan is studying aeronautical science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

The Herbert L. Cox Memorial Scholarship went to Peter William Krupski who is studying aerospace engineering at Purdue University. The scholarship applies to students attending a four-year accredited college or university in pursuit of a degree leading to an aviation profession.

And lastly, Nathaniel Eliot Huebscher won the Hansen Scholarship based on good academic standing while attending an accredited college, university, or technical college. Nathaniel is pursuing a career in aerospace engineering at Princeton University.
