Urban Promise Succeeds

Submitted by Jay Herman Blum,
Young Eagles Coordinator EAA Chapter 78 (Philadelphia, PA)

Dear Michelle,
I just want to add a special note of thanks to you and the EAA staff for helping Philadelphia
Chapter 78 to prepare for our first Young Eagles event in 2005.

Now that I am in my second year as the Young Eagles Coordinator for the chapter, I think we are finally getting the “rally” procedures well organized and productive.
Among the children that we hosted on April 9th, were five very special kids from Camden, NJ based Urban Promise. Urban Promise is a 15-year-old ministry to the children and youth of Camden. Its mission is to equip children and young adults with the skills necessary for spiritual growth, academic achievement, life management and Christian leadership.

David Hain, right, with his son Max, daughter Victoria and family friend Jordan Moulton after landing with pilot Robert Bausman.

These children awoke very early in the morning to make the one hour and fifteen minute drive from Camden to Doylestown DYL airport for the rally. For all but one of the kids, it was their very first time in any airplane and from all accounts the flights were an amazing experience.

Pilots Ed Hoelker and Pilot Rick Eggleston with Young Eagles Catherine Solomon, Alicia Savercool, Sally Villa, Takiera Alford and Hassan Coleman.

We were fortunate to have a beautiful early spring CAVU day.
The most common comment was how cool it was to be able to see the downtown skylines of both Philadelphia and New York at the same time. I was asked by all of the eager Young Eagles to write down the web site address so they could see their names in the World’s Largest Logbook.
We are already looking forward to our next rally on June 11th and wish to thank you all again for your support!
