Kerrville, Texas – Nov. 1, 2006 – EAA Chapter 747’s (Kerrville, Texas) initial Young Eagles event scheduled on October 14 was trumped by lousy weather, but made amends by introducing the wonders of flight to 25 well-mannered and eager Tivy High Junior AFROTC students on Saturday, October 21.
The young "troops," commanded by Capt. Paul Hill, were flown by intrepid aviators Alan Baker in his Gruman Tiger, John Woods in his Mooney, Scott Belt in his C-172, Hal Buxton in his RV-4 and John Dormer in Kerrville Aviation's C-172.
The whole operation was, once again, most professionally run by new President-Elect, Carol Mulvihill, who even baked cookies for everyone, along with the sandwiches and drinks served after the flying was completed.
Jim Mulvihill displayed his Concours L-19 Bird Dog, along with Dave Dean's beautiful Acro Sport and YRFTHFLSRVNT's" J. D. Special." Jim Mulvihill, Ron Spiess, John Langston, Vern Hatch and Stan Cullison conducted ground crew activities. John Bish, once again, recorded the event with his trusty camera.
The registration table was efficiently manned by "The Old Pros," Bill Haskell, Amy Spiess, Karin Buston, Sally Syfan and Barbara Dormer. These volunteers managed to keep all the paperwork in the right piles until presented to the bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Young Eagles after their flights.
It was very gratifying to accept the sincere thanks from both the Young Eagles and their appreciative parents. It helps to make our efforts truly worthwhile. In addition, the specially prepared Certificates of Appreciation for each of our pilots, presented by the Junior AFROTC squadron, was a very nice touch.
Once again, EAA Chapter 747 members, with Carol Mulvihill at the helm, conducted a very successful Young Eagles program with energy, enthusiasm, cooperative spirit and professionalism. We thank you all!
