Young Eagles Fly-In great success

Milwaukee, November 8, 2006EAA Chapter 18 (Milwaukee, Wis.) and the Friends of the Crivitz Airport (FoCA) hosted a Young Eagles Fly-In and an Airport Open House at the Crivitz Municipal Airport in the Town of Stephenson on October 7th. In all, 15 general aviation airplanes and two helicopters were in attendance, allowing 174 children to receive free aircraft rides. Rides averaged 15 minutes and allowed passengers to see the Crivitz area from the air.

Under the direction of EAA Chapter 18 coordinators, volunteers planned and organized the annual event operating registration, photography, concessions and safety. In addition to the aircraft rides, both the Town of Stephenson and Village of Crivitz displayed fire and rescue equipment. Families were welcomed to hands-on tours of the equipment. Also on display were ultralight airplanes, powered parachutes and a remote controlled airplane demonstration.

Peter Ogorek, event coordinator, stated, “As great as this year’s Fly-In has been, I hope we can give 200 kids the opportunity [to fly] next year.” FoCA members, thrilled at the event’s success, wished to thank the community, Town of Stephenson, Village of Crivitz, EAA Chapter 18 and all of the volunteers involved. Attendance was the highest ever and with cooperative weather, no children were denied the opportunity to fly.
